Tony Conza holding a Blimpie Sub Sandwich

Tony Conza, Blimpie’s founder, had a big American Dream and a simple restaurant idea: pile the finest meats, cheeses and toppings on freshly baked bread right in front of the customer. It was an idea ahead of its time.

Tony knew back then what so many people know now – the customer wants sandwiches that are good, fresh, quick, and built their way. The first Blimpie submarine sandwich restaurant opened on April 4, 1964. Since then, Blimpie has expanded its mouthwatering sub sandwich franchise across the country and around the world.

Our recipe for success, however, is the same today as it was when Conza launched the company back in 1964. We serve up fresh-sliced subs with a passion. Each Blimpie store is much more than just a sub sandwich franchise – it’s a community fixture, a neighborhood hang-out spot, and the local deli. Customers come to Blimpie expecting more than just a quick lunch – they want the best-tasting sub in town served by a passionate and community-focused local business owner. And that’s what our franchisees deliver – just like Tony did in 1964!

Joining a Bigger Family

We’ve grown a lot in 50 years and we’re thrilled to be a part of the Kahala family. In 2006, Kahala Brands, one of the fastest growing food franchise companies in the world, added Blimpie to its portfolio of franchise brands. As leaders of a company responsible for more than 2500 restaurants operating around the globe, Kahala’s management team believed their company possessed the expertise required to grow Blimpie into a well-respected international brand.

Today, Kahala's leaders have created a community based on support, trust and independence through interdependence. The Blimpie community is made up of passionate franchisees, respected vendors and a dedicated and talented support staff who all work together toward common goals. Kahala achieves costs-savings by bundling “back of the house” functions, where the entire franchise community benefits from shared teams in purchasing, finance, real estate, business training and IT to capitalize on economies of scale.

As a brand dedicated to beign a leader in sub sandwich franchise opportunites, the future looks brighter than ever for Blimpie. The QSR market is growing. The brand has an established reputation for quality and customer satisfaction. And more and more customers are taking notice of what Blimpie is and has always been… the go-to place for the biggest and best subs in their community and a sub shop franchise that is top contender in the sub sandwich QSR industry.
