These three bold subs, The Spicy Piggy, The Twisted Piggy, and the BBQ Chick, hit all Blimpie stores on June 6th and have been a major hit with Blimpie customers ever since.
And speaking of generating traction, the “Bigger, Better, BBQ” promotion caught the attention of some of the nation’s leading restaurant publications seeking hot new trend stories for summer. Reporters loved the fact that Blimpie was among the major national chains capitalizing on the rising trend by adding tasty BBQ options to their menu. Consider the following stats from Technomic’s MenuMonitor® that showcase the increased customer demand for BBQ options:
- BBQ menu mentions have spiked across the add-on (+43.8%), appetizer (+7.4%) and side menus (+6.5%) at top 500 QSRs.
- Since 2015, the fastest-growing menu items featuring BBQ mentions include: wings, pork ribs, chicken sandwiches and pizza.
- Honey (+4%), Spicy (+60%) and Tangy (+33%) BBQ sauces are the fastest-growing varieties in the past year at Top 500 QSRs, based on menu incidence.
